Welcome to Red Lodge
Red Lodge is the kind of town that welcomes you with open arms.
This is just the makeup of this pleasant historic mining town of
the approximate 2,000 residents. The carte du jour of goings-on
can excite every appetite.
The Red Lodge Music Festival
brings young musicians and an accomplished faculty here every summer
for instruction and evening concerts. This event runs in the month
of June.
The 71st annual Home of Champions
Rodeo for 2001 is held July 2, 3 and 4. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys
of America sanctioned event draws famous cowboys and cowgirls from
all over.
The Red Lodge Festival of Nations
in August of every year, presents eight days of enjoyable history,
culture, traditions, crafts, music, costumes and treasures of the
countries whose people came to Red Lodge around the turn of the
century to seek their livelihoods in the coal mines. The year 2001
marks the 50th Festival of Nations.
Other events are the Peaks
to Prairie triathlon race in September, in which teams run from
Parkside Campground to Red Lodge, bike to Laurel and canoe to Billings,
and the annual Beartooth Run, uphill from Parkside to Vista Point,
held in June.
Excellent downhill skiing is
enjoyed November through April on Red Lodge Mountain. Nordic skiers
can enjoy private, groomed trails or those in the forest.
Try the National Finals Ski-Joring
Finals held the second weekend of March. This event combines horsemanship
and skiing technique for a truly spectacular sport.
Golfing enthusiasts will find
the Red Lodge Mountain Golf Course and the Elks Golf Course to be
two beautiful courses, where a look at the scenic beauty surrounding
you may make you forget that bad shot. There are tennis courts in
Red Lodge and Rock Creek Resort.
The Carbon County Arts Guild
has continuing exhibits and works of local artists on display. The
fine new Peaks to Plains Museum offers a look into past years of
our area. Our Beartooth Scenic Byway has been acclaimed by Charles
Kuralt of CBS fame as being "the most beautiful drive in America."
To sum it up, rodeo, running,
biking, skiing, concerts, mountain men, cultural festivals, ski-joring,
winter games, carnivals parades, art festivals, trails, streams,
lakes, unique shops, restaurants, lodging
we have it if you
want it.
Come join us and share the
moment of a lifetime.
Historic Red Lodge
The central business district of Red Lodge began to take its present
form at the turn of the century, when businessmen and community
leaders backed their faith in the continuing development of the
town with buildings of stone and brick.
These buildings, constructed primarily between
the late 1880s and 1915, were intended to make Red Lodge a showcase
of civil price and accomplishment. Most have been restored by their
owners and are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, Red Lodge continues
its tradition of civil price with design codes and a new Master
Plan adopted to preserve the town's atmosphere and architectural
integrity.
